Molise

regionscoat of armswhitered

The flag of Molise features the regional coat of arms on a white field. The emblem displays a red shield with a silver diagonal band (bend), similar to heraldic traditions from the region's medieval period. Molise is Italy's second-smallest region by area and was the last to be created, separating from Abruzzo in 1963. Its flag reflects a straightforward heraldic tradition. The region is so small and little-known that there is a running joke in Italy: 'Molise non esiste' (Molise doesn't exist).

Molise is so obscure within Italy that 'Molise non esiste' (Molise doesn't exist) has become a beloved national meme, with Italians jokingly denying the region's existence despite its 300,000 residents.
