The flag of Fukushima features a white mon emblem on a dark blue-green field. The emblem stylises the hiragana character ふ (fu), the first syllable of Fukushima, into a flowing circular design that suggests unity and harmony. The teal-green background represents the lakes, mountains, and forests of this geographically diverse prefecture spanning from the Pacific coast to the interior highlands.
Fukushima Prefecture contains Bandai-Asahi National Park with its hundreds of colourful lakes, and the castle town of Aizu-Wakamatsu, one of the last strongholds of the samurai.
