The flag of Miyagi features a white mon emblem on a deep green field. The emblem is a stylised rendering of the hiragana character み (mi), the first syllable of Miyagi, formed into an elegant circular design. The three crescents radiating from the centre represent development and growth. The green field symbolises the fertile Sendai Plain and the prefecture's abundant nature.
Miyagi's capital Sendai is known as the City of Trees, and the prefecture is famous for its Tanabata festival featuring elaborate bamboo decorations.
