Ishikawa

prefectureskatakanadark bluewhite

The flag of Ishikawa features a white mon emblem on a dark blue field. The emblem is a stylised rendering of the katakana character イ (i), the first syllable of Ishikawa, formed into a graceful upward-sweeping design. The elegant lines reflect the prefecture's rich tradition of fine arts and crafts, particularly gold leaf and Kutani pottery. The blue field represents the Sea of Japan and the Noto Peninsula coastline.

Ishikawa produces over 99% of Japan's gold leaf, and its capital Kanazawa is home to Kenroku-en, one of Japan's three most celebrated gardens.
