Nara

prefectureskatakanamaroonwhite

The flag of Nara features a white mon emblem on a maroon-crimson field. The emblem is a stylised katakana ナ (na), the first syllable of Nara, designed with graceful curves within a circular frame. The design's classical elegance befits Japan's first permanent capital. The deep crimson background evokes the vermillion of the prefecture's ancient temples and shrines.

Over 1,200 wild sika deer roam freely in Nara Park and are considered divine messengers in the Shinto tradition; they have been designated as national natural treasures.
