Okayama
prefectureskatakanamaroonwhite
The flag of Okayama features a white mon emblem on a maroon-red field. The emblem is a stylised circular design incorporating the katakana character γͺ (o), the first syllable of Okayama. The rounded, open form suggests the warmth and sunny climate of a region known as the 'Land of Sunshine'. The deep red background evokes the peaches and grapes that make this one of Japan's premier fruit-growing prefectures.
Okayama is associated with the folk tale of MomotarΕ (Peach Boy), Japan's most beloved fairy tale, and Okayama Castle is nicknamed 'Crow Castle' for its black exterior.
