Fukui
prefectureskatakanapurplewhite
The flag of Fukui features a white mon emblem on a deep purple field. The emblem is a stylised katakana character フ (fu), the first syllable of Fukui, rendered as a gentle arc enclosing a circular element. The purple background is an unusual and distinctive choice that conveys dignity and the prefecture's deep historical significance as a centre of Zen Buddhism and traditional industry.
Fukui produces over 90% of Japan's eyeglass frames and is home to one of the world's richest dinosaur fossil sites, now celebrated in a major museum.
