Macau's flag features a green background with a white lotus flower above a stylised bridge and water, beneath an arc of five gold stars. The lotus represents the people, the bridge represents the connection to mainland China, and the water represents Macau's position as a port city.
The bridge depicted is the Ponte Governador Nobre de Carvalho, which connects the Macau Peninsula to Taipa Island. Macau was the last European colony in Asia, returned to China by Portugal in 1999.
