Kedah

statesredgoldcoat of arms

The flag of Kedah is a striking red field with a golden-yellow shield in the centre bearing a traditional Malay coat of arms featuring a sheaf of rice. The red represents bravery and the warrior spirit of Kedah's people, while the gold coat of arms symbolises sovereignty and royal authority. The sheaf of rice in the arms reflects Kedah's reputation as the rice bowl of Malaysia. Kedah is one of the oldest states on the peninsula, with archaeological evidence of civilisation dating back over a millennium.

Kedah is home to the Bujang Valley, one of Southeast Asia's oldest civilisations with Hindu-Buddhist temples dating back to the 4th century CE.
