Groningen

provincesquarteredgreenwhite

The flag of Groningen is divided into four quarters of alternating green and white, with a narrow red stripe running horizontally through the centre and vertically through the middle forming a cross. The green and white quarters represent the province's lush agricultural landscape, while the red cross symbolises the city of Groningen's historic role as the provincial capital. The quartered design with its distinctive red cross creates a bold, geometric pattern.

Groningen's population has the highest percentage of young people of any Dutch province, largely due to the University of Groningen, which has been operating since 1614.
