Thailand's flag, called the Trairanga (tricolor), has five horizontal stripes of red, white, blue (double width), white, and red. Red represents the nation and its people's blood, white symbolizes the purity of Buddhism, and blue represents the monarchy. The flag is sometimes called the flag of the 'three pillars' of Thai nationhood.

Thailand's flag was changed to include the blue stripe in 1917 after King Vajiravudh saw the previous red-and-white flag hanging upside down, prompting him to create a symmetrical design that looks the same either way.
