The Kent flag features a white rearing horse on a red field. Known as the Invicta (Unconquered) horse, it is the symbol of the Kingdom of Kent, one of the first Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. The horse represents the legendary white horses of Horsa and Hengist, the Jutish founders of Kent.
Kent's motto 'Invicta' (Unconquered) refers to the county's proud claim that it was never fully conquered by William the Conqueror in 1066.
