The flag of Scotland, known as the Saltire or St Andrew's Cross, features a white diagonal cross on a blue background. Legend holds that the cross appeared as a cloud formation before a Pictish victory in the 9th century. It is considered one of the oldest flags in the world still in use.
The Saltire is claimed to be the oldest continuously used national flag in the world, with traditions dating its origin to a battle in 832 AD.
