Vietnam's flag features a large yellow five-pointed star on a red background. The red represents the revolution and the blood shed for independence, while the five points of the star symbolize the five classes of society: intellectuals, farmers, workers, businesspeople, and military personnel working together in building socialism.
Vietnam's flag was first used during the uprising against French colonial rule in 1940 and became the national flag of the unified Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon in 1975.
Adopted: 1955
