Basel-Landschaft

The flag of Basel-Landschaft features a red bishop's crozier on a white field, mirroring the design of Basel-Stadt but in red instead of black. The change in color distinguishes the rural half-canton from the urban one after they separated in 1833. The red crozier maintains the episcopal heritage shared by both Basel cantons while asserting the Landschaft's independent identity.
Basel-Landschaft separated from Basel-Stadt in 1833 after a brief civil conflict, making them the most recently divided half-cantons in Swiss history.
Adopted: 1833
