Jura
cantonsstripescrozierred
The flag of Jura features a bishop's crozier in white on a field of seven red and white horizontal stripes. The seven stripes represent the seven historic districts of the Jura region. As the youngest Swiss canton — created in 1979 after separating from Bern — Jura's flag deliberately combines traditional heraldic elements with a modern design to honor both its ecclesiastical history and its distinct identity.
Jura is Switzerland's newest canton, having separated from Bern through a series of referenda between 1974 and 1978, with formal sovereignty beginning on January 1, 1979.
Adopted: 1979
