Luzern

cantonsbicolorgeometricblue

The flag of Luzern is vertically divided into two equal halves: blue on the left (hoist side) and white on the right. This straightforward bicolor design has been in use since the 14th century and derives from the colors of the city's medieval guild banners. The simplicity of the design makes it one of the most minimalist cantonal flags in Switzerland.

The name Luzern may derive from the Latin 'lucerna' (lamp), referring to a light that guided fishermen to the monastery at the site.
