Trentino-Alto Adige
The flag of Trentino-Alto Adige (Trentino-Südtirol) features a white-blue horizontal bicolor, representing the union of the two autonomous provinces: Trentino (historically associated with white) and South Tyrol (Alto Adige, associated with blue and red). This autonomous region in Italy's far north has a large German-speaking population in South Tyrol and significant Ladin minorities. The simple bicolor reflects the dual identity of a region that was part of Austria-Hungary until 1919 and retains strong Alpine and Central European cultural influences.
Trentino-Alto Adige is effectively governed as two separate autonomous provinces — Trentino and South Tyrol — each with extensive self-governing powers, making the regional government largely ceremonial.
