Ticino

cantonsbicolorredblue

The flag of Ticino is vertically divided into red (left) and blue (right) halves. This simple bicolor design was adopted in 1803 when the canton was created during the Napoleonic Mediation, combining previously separate Italian-speaking bailiwicks. The red and blue colors were chosen to represent the two main districts that merged: Sopraceneri and Sottoceneri.

Ticino is the only Swiss canton where Italian is the sole official language, and its Mediterranean climate makes it a popular vacation destination for other Swiss.
