Vaud
cantonsbicolorwhitegreen
The flag of Vaud is horizontally divided into white (top) and green (bottom), with the words 'Libertรฉ et Patrie' (Liberty and Fatherland) inscribed in gold on the white portion. This is one of only a few Swiss cantonal flags bearing a motto. The flag dates to the Vaudois revolution of 1798 when the canton freed itself from Bernese rule, and the green symbolizes hope and the lush countryside.
Vaud is home to the Lavaux vineyard terraces along Lake Geneva, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with winemaking traditions dating back to Roman times.
