Germany

europetricolourhorizontal-stripes

The German flag is a horizontal tricolour of black, red, and gold. The colors date back to the uniforms of the Lutzow Free Corps during the Napoleonic Wars and became symbols of German unity and democracy. The flag was first used during the 1848 revolutions and was readopted by West Germany in 1949.

The German colors of black, red, and gold are often jokingly remembered by Germans as 'Schwarz-Rot-Senf' (black, red, mustard).
