Region of Murcia

communitiescastlecrownred

The flag of the Region of Murcia is a crimson red field with seven golden castles arranged in four rows along the hoist side, and four golden crowns in the upper fly corner. The castles represent the former Kingdom of Murcia's fortified towns, while the crowns symbolize the four times the city of Murcia was awarded royal honors.

The Kingdom of Murcia was one of the last Moorish territories to be reconquered, falling to the Crown of Castile in 1243, and its seven castles commemorate key fortress towns of that era.
