Limburg

provinceslionredblue

The flag of Limburg features a blue field charged with a rampant red lion with golden crown, claws, and tongue, placed on a golden (yellow) horizontal band running through the centre of the flag. The lion of Limburg is one of the oldest heraldic symbols in the Low Countries, originating from the medieval Duchy of Limburg. The blue and gold colour scheme combined with the fierce red lion creates one of the most heraldically rich provincial flags in the Netherlands.

Limburg is the only Dutch province with significant hills — the Vaalserberg at 322.4 metres is the highest point in the European Netherlands.
