The flag of La Rioja consists of four horizontal stripes of red, white, green, and yellow, all of equal width. These four colors represent the region's diverse landscapes: the red for its wine-producing earth, the white for its limestone terrain, the green for its mountain forests, and the yellow for the grain fields of the Ebro valley.
La Rioja is Spain's most prestigious wine region and its name is protected; it was the first Spanish wine region to receive Denominación de Origen status in 1925.
