Sakha

republicsbluewhitesun

The flag of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) features a light blue field with a white sun disk bearing a dark blue circle at the center, and narrow stripes of white, red, and green at the bottom. The white sun disk with its dark blue center represents the harsh Arctic sun over the frozen north, while the blue field symbolizes the sky, loyalty, and the vast frozen expanses. The bottom stripes represent snow (white), vitality and warmth (red), and the brief but brilliant Arctic summer (green). Sakha is the largest subnational entity in the world by area, larger than Argentina.

Sakha contains Oymyakon, the coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth, where temperatures have reached minus 67.7 degrees Celsius (minus 89.9 degrees Fahrenheit).
