Cayman Islands
territoriesblueunion jackemblem
The Cayman Islands flag features a blue ensign with the Union Jack in the canton and the territorial coat of arms on the fly. The coat of arms shows a green turtle above three wavy blue-and-white stripes (representing the sea) on a shield, surmounted by a pineapple. The motto reads 'He hath founded it upon the seas'.
The Cayman Islands were originally called 'Las Tortugas' (The Turtles) by Columbus because of the vast numbers of sea turtles surrounding them. They were later renamed after the caimans (a type of crocodile) found there.
