Sri Lanka's flag, known as the Lion Flag, features a golden lion holding a sword on a dark red (maroon) background, with green and orange vertical stripes on the hoist side. The lion represents the Sinhalese people, the sword symbolizes sovereignty, and the green and orange stripes represent the Muslim and Tamil minorities respectively.
The four bo leaves in the corners of the maroon panel represent Buddhism and the four Buddhist virtues: loving-kindness, compassion, equanimity, and happiness.
