The Powys flag features a red field with a golden lion rampant, taken from the arms of the ancient Kingdom of Powys. The lion represents the power and authority of the Powys princes who ruled central Wales for centuries.
The Kingdom of Powys was known as the 'Paradise of Wales' in medieval poetry and controlled the fertile lands of the Severn Valley.
