The flag with the crescent and star was restored in 2011 after the fall of Gaddafi. Originally adopted in 1951, it features the red, black, and green of the Senussi dynasty. The white crescent and star represent Islam.
From 1977 to 2011, Libya had the world's only national flag that was a single solid colour — plain green with no design.
