Johor

statesblueredcrescent

The flag of Johor features a dark blue field with a red canton in the upper-hoist corner bearing a white crescent and five-pointed star. The blue represents the Sultan and royal authority, while the red canton symbolises the warrior spirit of the Johorean people. The white crescent and star are traditional Islamic symbols reflecting the state's role as a centre of Malay-Muslim civilisation. Johor was the successor state to the great Malacca Sultanate, and its flag design has remained largely unchanged since the 19th century under Sultan Abu Bakar.

Johor is connected to Singapore by a causeway that carries approximately 300,000 travellers daily, making it one of the busiest land border crossings in the world.
