North Holland

provincestribandyellowred

The flag of North Holland features three horizontal stripes of yellow, red, and blue from top to bottom. These colours derive from the coat of arms of the former County of Holland, which displayed a red lion on a golden field. The tricolour arrangement creates a warm, vibrant flag that represents the historic heart of the Netherlands. North Holland, which includes Amsterdam, has used these colours for centuries as part of its identity as the most internationally recognised part of the country.

North Holland is home to both Amsterdam and Haarlem, yet the name 'Holland' was only applied to the northern part of the former county after Napoleon split it in two in 1807.
