The OPEC flag features a light blue background with the OPEC emblem at its centre. The emblem consists of the letters 'OPEC' in a stylised design within a circular frame. Below sits a representation of an oil derrick or petroleum industry symbol. The light blue background represents global cooperation.
OPEC was founded in Baghdad in 1960 by five countries: Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela. The organisation now has 13 member countries controlling a significant share of global oil reserves.
