The Polish flag is a horizontal bicolour of white and red. The white represents the white eagle from the Polish coat of arms, and the red refers to the crimson background of the shield. The colors have been associated with Poland since the 13th century and were officially adopted as national colors in 1831.

Poland celebrates Flag Day on May 2, and the white-and-red colors are so revered that it is a criminal offense in Poland to intentionally destroy or disrespect the flag.
