The Russian flag is a horizontal tricolour of white, blue, and red. Adopted by Peter the Great in 1696 after his visit to the Netherlands, the flag was inspired by the Dutch tricolour. The white is said to represent nobility, the blue honesty, and the red courage. It was restored as the national flag after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The Russian tricolour inspired the Pan-Slavic colors used by many other Slavic nations including Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, and Croatia.
