The flag of Khakassia features a green field with a blue vertical stripe at the hoist bearing a golden solar emblem — a stylized sun with rays. The solar symbol draws from ancient petroglyphs found across the Khakass steppe, connecting to the Turkic sun-worship traditions of the indigenous Khakas people. Green represents the taiga forests and fertile steppe, while blue symbolizes the clear Siberian sky. Khakassia contains thousands of ancient stone steles and petroglyphs scattered across its steppe, some dating back over 4,000 years, earning it the nickname 'the open-air museum of Siberia.'
