Udmurtia
The flag of Udmurtia features three vertical stripes of black, white, and red, with a red eight-pointed solar symbol at the center of the white stripe. Black represents the earth and stability, white symbolizes the universe and moral purity, and red represents the sun and life. The eight-pointed star is an ancient Udmurt protective amulet (tolezy) that appears throughout Udmurt folk art. The Udmurts are a Finno-Ugric people related to Finns, Estonians, and Hungarians, and their distinctive mythology and folk traditions are reflected in the flag's symbolic solar emblem.
Udmurtia is the birthplace of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and the Udmurt people are sometimes called 'the redheads of Russia' because of their unusually high proportion of natural red hair.
