The Anglesey flag features a green field with two golden lions, derived from the arms of the medieval rulers of the island. Anglesey was known as 'Mon Mam Cymru' (Anglesey, Mother of Wales) because its fertile farmland fed the entire nation.
Anglesey's Welsh name is Ynys Mon, and the island was so important as a grain producer that it was called 'Mother of Wales' for feeding the rest of the country.
