Fredericia
municipalitiescoat-of-armslionlaurel
Fredericia's coat of arms features a lion in the colours of the Oldenburg dynasty, with a laurel branch. The motto 'Pro pace armatus' (Armed for peace) reflects the city's founding as a fortress in 1650. Officially granted in 1655.
Fredericia was one of Denmark's earliest havens of religious tolerance, attracting French Huguenots, German Reformed Christians, Catholics, and Jews who were granted special freedoms to settle in the garrison town.
Adopted: 1655
