Northumberland

englandhorizontal-stripesred-goldheraldic

The Northumberland flag features eight alternating red and gold horizontal stripes, taken from the arms of the medieval Kingdom of Northumbria. The design is one of the most striking of all English county flags and dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period.

The Kingdom of Northumbria once stretched from the Humber to the Firth of Forth and was the most powerful of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in the 7th century.
