The French Tricolore features three vertical stripes of blue, white, and red. Born during the French Revolution, the blue and red are the traditional colors of Paris, while white represents the monarchy. The flag became a powerful symbol of liberty, equality, and fraternity, and inspired numerous other national flags worldwide.
In 2020, President Macron quietly changed the shade of blue on the French flag from a lighter EU-style blue back to the darker navy blue used during the Revolution.
