Adopted in 1851, the flag features three horizontal stripes of red, yellow, and green. Red symbolizes the blood of national heroes, yellow the mineral wealth, and green the fertility of the land. The state flag includes the coat of arms in the center.
Bolivia also has the Wiphala, a square rainbow-colored banner of the indigenous peoples, which holds equal status as a national symbol alongside the tricolor flag.
