The flag of Kagawa features a white mon emblem on a dark green field. The emblem is a stylised katakana character ã‚« (ka), the first syllable of Kagawa, designed with clean angular lines within a circular frame. The balanced, compact design reflects this smallest of Japan's prefectures. The green field represents the olive groves on Shodoshima Island and the lush Sanuki Plain.
Kagawa is Japan's smallest prefecture but consumes more udon noodles per capita than anywhere else, earning the unofficial nickname 'Udon Prefecture'.
