Kelantan
statesredwhitekris
The flag of Kelantan features a red field with two white crossed Malay kris daggers and a crescent and star in white above them. The red symbolises loyalty and bravery, while the crossed kris represent the martial heritage and sovereignty of the state. The crescent and star signify Islam as the state religion. Kelantan is known as the cradle of Malay culture on the peninsula, and the inclusion of the kris—a traditional asymmetrical dagger—reflects the deep reverence for Malay customs and traditions in this northeastern state.
Kelantan is famous for its traditional Malay art forms including Wayang Kulit (shadow puppetry) and Mak Yong, a dance-drama listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
