The Arab League flag features a green background with a golden crescent and chain emblem at its centre, encircled by a golden wreath. Arabic script arches above the emblem spelling the organisation's name. The green is a traditional colour of Islam and Arab identity, while the crescent and chain symbolise the linked destinies of the member states.
The Arab League was founded in Cairo in 1945 with just six members and has since grown to include 22 member states spanning North Africa and Western Asia.
