Karachay-Cherkessia
republicsbluegreenred
The flag of Karachay-Cherkessia features three horizontal stripes of blue, green, and red, with a golden sun rising above a golden mountain range in the center. Blue represents peace and tranquility, green symbolizes nature and Islam, and red stands for warmth and friendship between peoples. The sun and mountain imagery reflect the republic's position in the Greater Caucasus range, where snow-capped peaks frame alpine meadows. The design represents the two titular peoples — the Turkic Karachays and the Circassian Cherkess — living together in the mountain region.
Karachay-Cherkessia contains Dombay, one of Russia's most famous ski resorts, set in a glacial valley surrounded by peaks over 4,000 meters high.
