Syria's flag consists of three horizontal stripes of red, white, and black with two green five-pointed stars on the white stripe. The Pan-Arab colors represent different dynasties and ideals, while the two stars originally represented Egypt and Syria during their short-lived union as the United Arab Republic.

Syria's current flag is identical to the flag of the United Arab Republic (1958-1961), the short-lived political union between Egypt and Syria, and was readopted in 1980.

Adopted: 1980
