The Somerset flag features a red dragon on a gold field. The dragon represents the ancient Kingdom of Wessex, of which Somerset was a central part. The gold colour represents the county's agricultural wealth and its famous cider orchards.
The Somerset Levels are one of the oldest known areas of human settlement in Britain, with wooden trackways dating back to 3800 BC.
